Here is a listing and description of some of the special Lancaster County events taking place in October of 2009.

Adamstown

OKTOBERFEST - Celebrate German traditions right here in Pennsylvania Dutch Country in the colorful Gemutlichkeit Bier Garden at the Stoudt Brewing Co.

This is a fun-filled family event held the last weekend of September and every Sunday in October. There will be plenty of live German music and authentic German food.

Try the apple and beer sausage with slow roasted sauerkraut, Stoudt's award-winning microbrews, and the famous Pig Roast. Fresh baked hand rolled soft pretzels are a favorite treat for any age.

Wine and liquor also available.

Despite the beer and alcohol theme, this is a family-friendly celebration.

18th Annual Stoudts Bier Garden Microfest - Join fellow beer enthusiasts in the Bier Garden to sample fifteen of the country's finest micro-breweries. Enjoy a tasting glass, unlimited samplings, a hearty buffet featuring chef specialties and music by the bands, Borncross Eyed (on October 16, 2009), Octavia Blues Band (the afternoon of October 17, 2009) and The Youngers ( the evening of October 17, 2009).

Christiana

Opal's Million Dollar Duck - Searching for costumes for their next production, Desmond and Queenie stop by Opal's Antique Jungue Shop. While rooting through Opal's treasures they spot an oil painting- a still life of a dead mallard duck and an apple.

Recalling the morning paper, an article about a painting which has disappeared from the local art museum, they think that this may be it. Summoning up all their acting skills, the pair try to persuade Opal to sell the painting. But she is going to give it to her friend Rosie, who rejects the painting because it reminds her of her pet duck.

The plotters march off triumphantly with their prize, unaware that a later edition of the paper says the painting has been found and what Desmond and Queenie have found was a copy thrown out with the garbage.

Columbia

21st Annual Bridge Bust - 300 vendors of crafts, antiques, art and food will display their wares along the one mile long Veterans Memorial Bridge linking Columbia and Wrightsville from Lancaster and York Counties. The bridge will be closed to ordinary traffic during this unique event.

The 8th Annual Lititz Chocolate Walk - "Trick or Treat for grownups” is often how the Lititz Chocolate Walk has been described by visitors. During this one-of-a-kind experience, you can sample decadent delights prepared by local candy makers and pastry chefs.

Over 20 chocolate tasting locations will be set up throughout downtown offering you chocolate treats as you stroll along enjoying the beauty and shops of downtown Lititz. There will also be live musical entertainment, a Chocolate Poetry Contest, and a Dark Chocolate Taste Test.

  • Admission: Chocolate Walkers need to purchase an official Chocolate Walk button and punch card which enables the wearer to receive a free sample at each of the two dozen stops along the route. Buttons go on sale on July 1, 2009 at participating locations for the advance sale price of $15.00. Beginning October 1, 2009, the cost will increase to $20.00 per button. Button sales are limited to 2000. Patrons are encouraged to purchase their buttons in advance since they sell out quickly. ALL proceeds are donated to the Schreiber Pediatric Center, the Lititz Public Library, and Lititz Kiwanis children's programs.

Model Railroading Days - For fans of model railroad building, this event is for you. During the weekend you will be able to attend a great variety of exciting railroad model building workshops and activities. You will enjoy witnessing firsthand the complex operating layouts as well as demonstrations of the latest products at both the Railroad Museum and National Toy Train Museum.
