Lancaster City Events in 2007Are you thinking about visiting Lancaster City but don't know when yet? Here are some of the Lancaster City events that will be taking place throughout 2007. The dates, times, and admission prices are accurate as of the time of this posting. However, it is possible that changes may occur as the year progresses. Therefore, please check back periodically to see if there have been any updates. We will plan to list more events as information becomes available. 4th Annual Gift of Art: A Celebration of Creative Giving - Enjoy this festive, multi-artist exhibit featuring original art by local Lancaster County artists.
Classical Persuasions: Ernesto Tamayo - World famous classical guitarist Ernesto Tamayo will delight you with his fluent technique, expressive sound, and, intimate and passionate performance.
Lancaster Symphony Orchestra Presents: The Romance of Rachmaninoff - Classical music lovers won't want to miss Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Symphony No. 2," plus "Voices from the Gallery," a witty and entertaining blend of music, spoken word and visual images. There will be a "Meet the Musicians" reception after Friday night's performance.
Needlefelt Fruit Program - Ever think about starting a new hobby? Learn the basic techniques of needlefelting with raw wool. Students will create beautiful needlefelt fruit art and will be able to take home their finished project. No experience necessary.
Grant Street Dance Project - This entertaining event features an intergenerational group of dancers noted for their versatility and frequent collaboration with regional artists, composers, musicians, and choreographers.
February Friendship Benefit Art Auction - From 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, there will be a reception and a silent auction. This will be followed by a live auction beginning at 8:00 p.m. There will be live music as well as refreshments available as you enjoy the many art displays.
In the making: Fastnachts Day - Learn the Pennsylvania Dutch traditions behind the fastnacht. This local specialty, which loosely resembles a kind of a deep-fried doughnut, has a historical connection to the 40 days of fasting for Lent. You will get to sample this tasty local favorite served before Ash Wednesday.
March The 21 St. Annual Craft Show - All proceeds of this craft show will be used to provide scholarships for deserving local students. The show is presented by the Covered Bridge Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
Charter Day at the Landis Valley Museum - The Landis Valley Museum celebrates Charter Day by featuring special tours and wagon rides.
April Quilter's Heritage Celebration - Hundreds of beautiful quilts will be on display; demonstrations and classed on quilting; lectures, fashion show; and special items for sale. A must for quilt lovers or those wanting to learn more about Lancaster County's unique quilts.
Lancaster Spring Art Walk - If you like the arts, you will certainly enjoy this annual celebration taking place at more than 30 galleries, studios, and art shops.
Hand Piercing Quilt Workshop - Interested in learning how Lancaster County's famous hand-made quilts are made? This workshop sponsored by the Heritage Center of Lancaster County will teach you the basic quilting stitch as well as the basics you will need to know to finish any quilting pattern.
James Buchanan's 216 Birthday Celebration at Wheatland - Come to Wheatland, the Lancaster estate President Buchanan and help celebrate the 216th birthday of the only Pennsylvanian to serve as President of the United States (1857 to 1861. There are free tours and birthday cake during this event hosted by students from the Buchanan Elementary School.
Landis Valley Museum Benefit Auction - Special auction benefiting the museum featuring many unique collectibles and heirlooms including jewelry, toys, and artwork.
May Community Days at Buchanan Park - Join the community festival at Buchanan Park. There will be carnival rides, games, music, food, and all-around fun for the entire family to enjoy.
10th Annual Artistry in Motion, Vintage Grand Tour & Show - Join Lancaster Musuem of Art in celebrating their 10th year of celebrating artistry in motion by honoring the Porche. The beautiful grounds of Bridge Acres Stables will be your backdrop as you sip champagne, listen to jazz, and stroll among classic motor vehicles.
Herb & Garden Faire - This is one of the largest plant and garden sales on the East Coast. More than 80 vendors will tempt you with flowers, herbs, historic seeds, and garden accessories. Come and help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Landis Valley's highly regarded Heirloom Seed Project. Demonstrations range from cooking with herbs to homeopathic uses for plants.
June 45th Annual Open Art Award Exhibit - Lancaster Summer Arts Festival’s annual exhibition featuring art work by Lancaster County artists.
Feathers, Fills and Frills by Machine - Participants in this class will learn free motion quilting fills and feathers. This is a technique class working with 15” squares of muslin and batting, and each person will take home their samples. The event is sponsored by the Heritage Center of Lancaster County Registration deadline: May 17, 2007. Advance registration is required.
Lancaster's Summertime Blues Bash 2007 - Enjoy the entertainment at this annual bash devoted to the Blues which is held in an outdoor courtyard in historic Lancaster. This year's Blues performers include: “Princess of the Rockin’ Gospel Blues” Sharrie Williams & the Wiseguys, The Clarence Spady Band, and D.C. & Co.
Back to the Past - Your entire family will enjoy this street celebration held by the shops and restaurants of North Queen Street. Festivities include demonstrations, magic, exhibits, antique appraisals, an auction, contests and more.
Demuth Garden Weekend Tour - Take a tour of the homes and gardens of eleven exclusive Lancaster County locations which reflect the work of Lancaster artist Charles Demuth.
World's Largest Shoo-Fly Pie Bake Off & Eating Contest - Join a panel of judges as some of the best bakers in Lancaster County compete to see who will be awarded the 2007 title of Best Shoo-Fly Pie in Lancaster County. Also, have fun while local contestants compete in a good old-fashioned pie eating contest. Find out who will win the title by eating the most pies in eight minutes.
